Before Troubleshoot

Update the QuickBooks to the latest version
- First, click on the QuickBooks icon and run it as Administrator.
- Now, head to the Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop > Options.
- Select “Mark All” and click on ‘Save.” Then, enable the ‘Reset Update.’
- Now, click “Get Updates” and download the available updates.
- After that, close the window and re-open the QuickBooks.

How do I fix an unrecoverable error in QuickBooks?

How many users are affected?
- Head to the Company menu and select Set Up Users and Passwords > Set Up Users.
- Select Add Users.., type the username and password, and select Next.
- After that, customize the user and choose Finish.
- Then, go to the File menu and select Close Company/Logoff.
- Lastly, log in to the company file using the new credential.
Stop QuickBook Desktop from Accessing All Windows
- Press the Alt key and double-click on the QuickBooks icon.
- Now, enter the password, if required.
- After that, press the Alt key and wait for the file to open completely.
- Lastly, release the Alt key.
Once it’s done, change My preference settings or close all the windows (Inside QuickBooks) before logging out of QuickBooks.
Fix the QuickBooks Desktop
- Firstly, re-register the QB desktop.
- To do so, open the reboot.exe file.

Suppress the Desktop while opening QuickBooks and company file
- Press and hold the Ctrl key and double-click on the QuickBooks program icon.
- Hold the Ctrl key until the No Company Open windows open.
- Now, select the desired company file from the No Company Open window.
- And, press and hold the Alt key and click on Open. If log-in displays, release the Alt key and enter the credentials.
- Press and hold the Alt and select OK. Do not release the Alt key until your file is entirely open.
Open a Sample File
If the issue persists, try opening a sample company file. Opening a sample will identify if there’s some problem in your company file or QuickBook itself.
To open a sample file;
- Head to the No Company Open window and select Open a sample file.
- Now, select any sample file from the list.
If a sample file opens, your company file may be corrupted/damaged, or the folder where the company file is saved is damaged. Try to open the company file to another location.
Copy the Company File to another location
- Create a folder on the desktop, make a right-click and head to the New > Folder. Name the folder QBTEST.
- Head to the folder where the company file is saved, then, Copy the company file and paste it into the QBTEST folder.
- Now, open the company file from the QBTEST folder.
Run Quick Fix my program
- Head to the QuickBooks Tools Hub and select Program Problems.
- Now, click on the Quick Fix my program and let it run. This may take a while.
- Once it is finished, open the company file and check if the issue is resolved or not.
Run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool
- Open the QuickBooks Tools Hub and navigate to the Installation Issues.
- Now, select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. Let it run; it will take 20 minutes to end.
- Once the Tool completes the scan, reboot your desktop and run QuickBooks Desktop and check if this resolves the issue or not.

Prevent the QBCF Monitor service from restarting on the workstation
- To open the Run window, press the Windows+R key.
- And, type services.msc and select OK.
- Now, scroll to the QBCFMonitorService and open the Properties.
- After that, choose Disabled as Startup type and select Apply > OK.
Use Reboot.bat file
- Locate the file under C:\Program File(x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks xxx Ver 00.0.
- Now, go to the Reboot.bat file, right-click on it, and run the file as Admin.
- After that, reboot your desktop/pc and check whether the issue is fixed or not.
Create a New User Admin
Some QuickBooks users reported that after creating a new Administrator user account, they never encountered any Unrecoverable error on their QuickBooks. Try creating a new user account and check. Maybe creating a new account resolves your issue too.
On Windows 11/10
- Navigate to the Settings > Accounts >Family & other users.
- Under Other Users, click on Add someone else to this PC.
- Enter the credentials and select the account type as Administrator.
- After that, click OK, and your new user account will be created.
On Windows 8.1
- Head to the Control Panel > User Accounts.
- Now, select Manage another account > Other accounts > Add an account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions, select the user account from Standard to Administrator, and click OK.
On Windows 8 and 7
- Head to the Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage another account.
- Now, choose to create a new account and enter the credentials.
- After that, select Administrator and Create Account.
After creating the new admin user account, check to see if this fixes the Unrecoverable Error.
