Try restoring a backup of your Quicken data file

If your Quicken data file got corrupted or damaged and you want to fix it, you can try restoring a backup of your Quicken data file. To do so, follow the below-given steps;

Restore Quicken data

  1. Open Quicken and click on the File option. Then, click on the Backup and Restore > Restore from Backup File.
  2. Select Restore from your backup and click on Browse.
  3. Now, locate the backup file you want to restore “Quicken backup has the extension .QDF-Backup”.
  4. Select the file you want to restore and click on Open > Restore Backup.
  5. You’ll get the option to overwrite the file you have to open or create a copy of your backup file. If you choose to Create a copy, you’ll need to select a location to save the backup file copy.
  6. And, if you’re restoring the file over the current file, click on OK to overwrite the existing file and click on Yes.

Check if this fixes your corrupted or damaged Quicken data file.

How do I validate and repair a Quicken file?

If restoring the backup file didn’t help you, here are the steps that’ll help you in validating and repairing your corrupted Quicken file;

  1. Open “Quicken” and click on the “File” option.
  2. Now, hover the cursor over the “File Operations” option.
  3. The window box will appear on the screen; click on the “Validate” or “Validate & Repair”.
  4. Next, click on “OK”.

Now, your corrupted Quicken data file will be repaired.

  1. If any problem occurs and Quicken detects data damage, select Rebuild Lots during the process.
  2. After completing the validation process, the Data_Log file will appear in a Notepad window.
  3. Now, verify the Data_Log.txt file and fix your issue.

Try Super Validate

If the above steps didn’t help you fix the damaged Quicken data file, you might be able to fix this issue with an advanced procedure; try to use the super validate. To Super Validate your file;

  1. Firstly, press and hold the Ctrl+Shift keys and select the Filetab.
  2. Now, click on File Operation > Validate and Repair.

How do I reset my Quicken data?

Resetting your Quicken cloud data will delete all the data associated with the currently opened file and re-sync your data for the same period immediately. When you reset your cloud data, the below-given information will be deleted and restored on the Quicken cloud right away.

  • Accounts you chose to sync prior to resetting your Quicken cloud data.
  • Transactions that have dates no more than two years back from the time of your cloud registration are associated with these accounts.
  • Attachments to the cloud that you uploaded before resetting your cloud data.
  • Budgets that you had already synced to the cloud.
  • Rename any rules, categories, tags, or alert settings you previously used before your cloud data was reset.
To reset the Cloud data;
  • Navigate to Edit > Preferences.
  • Now, select Mobile & Web
  • After that, under Quicken Mobile & Web, click on Reset your cloud data.
  • Lastly, type Yes and select Reset to confirm to reset the cloud data.
