What is QuickBooks Bank Error 187?

QuickBooks Bank Error 187 occurs when your financial institution’s additional security requirements (Two-factor authentication), such as a one-time password or security questions, weren’t entered correctly. 

What Causes QuickBooks Bank Error 187?

Below are some of the possible reasons that can be the reasons for QuickBooks Bank Error 187. 

  • There’s some malfunction in your system. You may encounter this issue due to improper software uninstallation.
  • A cluttered Windows registry or incorrect entries for nonexistent apps/softwares can raise the chances of such issues. 
  • Incorrect User Input can lead you to such bank issues.
  • Accidentally deleted the missing files from the registry.

How do I fix a bank error in QuickBooks?

Here are the steps that we followed to resolve the bank error 187; try to follow the steps as instructed.

Try to Re-entering 

Before moving on to the following methods, we suggest you re-enter the credentials and try to re-login to your account. Ensure that your answers to security questions are correct. If it still displays the error 187, then head towards the solutions.

Solution 1: Try to Clear Unwanted Accounts

  • Navigate to the Banking tab from the left pane.
  • Next, click on the Update from the upper right corner.
  • Now, select the Clear Unwanted accounts options. If you want to update some of your accounts, then,
  • Click on the Update Now button.
  • After that, enter your credentials of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Only if it asks you to enter.
  • At last, click on Continue Update.

Solution 2: Another Way

  • Navigate to the Banking tab again.
  • Now, head to the Update option.
  • After that, under the Last Updated section, you can see the date and/or time of the last Update will be listed there.

Solution 3: Update your Bank Info

  • Navigate to the Banking option and search your financial institution’s name if you haven’t connected to a bank before.
  • Click on the Add Account or Edit given at the top right. And, if you’ve connected with a bank before, locate your financial institution’s name.
  • Select your financial institution/bank name, then enter the credentials and click on Continue.
  • If it requires two-factor verification, then complete the verification steps and click on Securely Connected.
  • Now, select the Bank emblem/symbol you want to connect from the left of your account.
  • Select the type of account, and choose either Bank or Credit Card account. If you don’t have an account, select +Add New and create a new account.

When you connect your account for the first time, QuickBooks Online allows you to download the past 90 days’ transactions, and it will automatically download your banking and credit card transactions.

Solution 4: Upload Transactions Manually

  • Navigate to Banking, then select Banking.
  • Now, click on the down arrow beside the Link Account option and select Upload a file.
  • After that, select the files you want to upload and click on Continue.
  • Select the account you want to upload the transactions into, then click on Continue.
  • At last, follow the on-screen instruction, and your transactions will be uploaded.
